Aleksandar is a researcher and political activist from the Balkans with a focus on Marxism and economic history. He works on the history of Marxist education Yugoslavia and how foreign, especially Chinese, direct investment has shaped today's Balkans as part of the global green transition.

Aleksandar is a member of the "Green-Left Front", the main left-wing opposition party in the Serbian parliament, where he helps shape the party's new economic policy. He also runs a small ecological NGO called "Societal action".

Coming from a philosophical background, Aleksandar is interested in the question of how different ways of organising the economy have shaped social thought in both capitalist and socialist societies in the 20th century and today. In 2020, he completed his PhD at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana on the political economy of National Socialism, and has been a visiting researcher at Humboldt University and the University of Amsterdam on various occasions. He also worked with the China Centre at Oxford University on the project "China, Law and Development". He currently works at the Institute of Economics in Belgrade in the Department of Economic History and Theory. He runs the blog "Research & Alternatives".

Honours/Awards: 

"Civil Society Scholar Award" for the PhD thesis "The Fascist Abstraction: on the Political Economy of Nazism" in 2019.
